I talked to Oli at the opening of his most recent photography exhibition at Narana outside Geelong in Victoria. ‘Shalom’ is a collection of photographs taken by Oli on a visit to Shalom College for disadvantaged young people near Townsville in Queensland.
Oli Wilson started art at the age of 12. From a young age he was surrounded by art from an early age. His father is a very good illustrator and painter, his grandmother (pearl Britton) and Aunt (Cara Rynia Britton) are professional painters – exhibiting all over Australia. His Uncle (Jim Wilson) was a professional photographer and film maker.
Studying painting, illustrations, ceramics, airbrushing, photography and graphic design through school, he went on to get a degree in graphic design (Ballarat University) – majoring in graphic design, photography and painting. There followed a photography course in London (Royal College of the Arts) as well as multiple Textile design courses in Melbourne (RMIT and CSIRO).
He has worked as a designer and photographer (mainly in advertising and apparel) since 1997 in Melbourne, London, Paris, Madrid and now Torquay.
