In 2012 I talked to Megan Abbott, American Edgar®-winning crime novelist and was happy to meet her again on August 27th at the Melbourne Writers Festival.
We talked about her most recent exploration of teenage female psychology in her latest novel You Will Know Me and how young people are primed for success but not for failure. Megan also talked about the instabilities of race, gender and sexuality that make the ‘tough guy’, seem not so tough after all and how this might be playing out in Trump’s America. After the interview I attended a session ‘The Dark Side of Womanhood’ with her and Joyce Carol Oates which explored the dark, complicated interior lives of women and other matters.
