In December 2012 I presented a paper to a Crime Fiction Conference at Wollongong University on the Robicheaux novels of James Lee Burke called ‘James Lee Burke Rewrites the Bible.’
“Towards the end of Creole Belle, James Lee Burke’s most recent Dave Robichaeaux novel, is a passage that epitomises the Cajun detective’s longing for redemption, an innate yearning to be released from the burden of the Fall from grace that haunts Burke’s crime fiction. Robicheaux listens to falling rain and pines for a sort of biblical Noah’s Flood to wash clean the evil world he sees around him.”
